Recent actions by the U.S. Treasury Department, Office of Foreign Assets Control, have severely limited the exchange and dialogue between religious congregations, organizations and individuals in the United States and Cuba. Nevertheless, these exchanges have been an important part of the mission of religious organizations in both countries for more than a century. .
Common Ground has a number of years of experience facilitating such exchanges, working closely especially with the Cuban Council of Churches and dioceses and congregations in the United States and with the Patronato and other Jewish organizations in Cuba and those in the United States. We will be delighted to help any faith based group to continue these ties or to make new ones.
The first step is to understand the U.S. regulations and what is and is not permitted under the current guidelines. The next step is to apply for and receive a license from the U.S. Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control.
